The Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) was developed
in the late 1980s by Drs Burckhardt CS, Clark SR, Bennett RM at Oregon
Health & Science University, in an attempt to capture the total spectrum
of problems related to fibromyalgia and the responses to therapy. It was
first published in 1991 and since that time has been extensively used as
an index of therapeutic efficacy. The original questionnaire was
modified in 1997 and 2002, to reflect ongoing experience with the
instrument and to clarify the scoring
system. It is scored
from 0 to 100 with the latter number being the worst case. The average
score for fibromyalgia patients seen in tertiary care settings is about 55.
The FIQ is
widely used to assess change in fibromyalgia status and has been
translated into 13 languages:
Czech (Czech Republic), Dutch (The Netherlands), French (France,
Canada), German (Germany), Hebrew (Israel), Italian (Italy), Korean
(Korea), Polish (Poland), Romanian (Romania), Spanish (Argentina,
Spain), Swedish (Sweden), Turkish (Turkey).
Academic and Clinical Use
